To live a visual life is an enourmous undertaking "I know now that most people are so closely concerned with themselves that they are not aware of their own individuality, I can see myself, and it has helped me to say what I want to say...in paint." "One should really use the camera as though tomorrow you'd be stricken blind."
On the floor I feel more at ease, more a part of the painting The best way to go into an unknown territory is to go in ignorant, ignorant as possible, with your mind wide open, as wide open as possible and not having to meet anyone else's requirement but my own. My first memory is of the brightness of light...light all around.
I have things in my head that are not like what anyone has taught me -"I don't really know where I got my artist idea...I only know that by that time it was definitely settled in my mind." "One can't paint New York as it is, but rather as it is felt."
